Laboratory of Pulp & Paper Science (LGP2) is a mixed research unit (UMR 5518) with National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS).
Its activity starts from wood science to converting & printing of packaging. The Laboratory’s particularity is its pluri-disciplinarity in process, chemistry and materials. Moreover its strong link with paper & packaging industry induces lots of research projects and specific tools (from lab to pilot scale).About 100 people are working in this laboratory including 33 PhD Students, 10 MSc & 5 post-doc.
One activity of the group “Biomaterial-converting-packaging” of LGP2 is dedicated to bio-nanoparticle from cellulose and another one on chemical surface modification. this group has now expertise in preparation, characterization, modification and use of these nano-particles. This know-how allows the team to play an important role at national & international level with participation in different project like Sustainpack or FlexpakRenew. The strategy now is to scale up the production but also the use of this bio-nanofibres. The proposal below concerns a new European project in this field. Partner mainly involved in chemical modification of NFC surface following different innovative strategies in order to help for scale-up with new rheological properties. The main tasks of the PhD will consist in:
- Optimisation of grafted cellulose nanofibres
- Rheology suspension analyses
- Production of high quantity of modified cellulose nanofibres
- Coating and end-use properties analyses This PhD will take place in LGP2 (Grenoble) for 2009-2012 period.
Candidate has to have a master degree in research in the field of materials science and chemistry, polymer or packaging. Knowledge in biopolymer, rheology and cellulose grafting will be appreciated. Good english level is needed. Work on cellulose nanoelements or paper coating would be a plus. Team work capacity, autonomy and motivation would be important selection parameters
